The first time travelling overseas was about some years ago. It was an international flight to Canada from India. To be honest I was too afraid and uncomfortable at the beginning. I went to the airport 3 hours ahead and my flight was at 3 am in the morning.
I said goodbye to my family and passed through the security check. It was not too difficult to find my airline because there are always clear signs at the airport guiding you and security people are at every corner to help you. This is very helpful when you are travelling overseas for the first time.
I checked in my suitcase and followed other passengers towards immigration upstairs and I got my passport stamped. It is best to follow other passengers who are boarding the same flight, with that you can’t get lost at the airport. That was the thing I was afraid the most, I didn’t want to get lost in the huge airport. This is the most scaring thing while travelling overseas.
When I was done with all the paperwork, I was more relaxed than before. I called my family and told them everything went smoothly. There was some time on my flight, so I wandered around the airport.
After a while, it was time to board the flight. I passed through without a problem and boarded my first international flight. I found my seat easily because there were clear numbers on the seats. I heard the tutorial very carefully as I boarded for the first time so I learned about safety measures.
I saw the movie during the flight. I couldn’t sleep, maybe because I was flying for the first time. I didn’t like the food, because your taste buds don’t work properly when you are in high altitude. So I felt the food has no taste. But I ate it anyway because I couldn’t starve myself. I missed the food from my home country.
My first stay was at London Heathrow Airport. It was a stay of 4 hours and I was exploring this beautiful airport. It was raining outside, when I got tired of walking around I enjoyed the rain through the window.
I boarded the flight again and I slept the whole time on this flight, I think I was too tired by that time. I reached the Toronto Pearson Airport
and my friend came to pick me up there. I was so happy to meet her. I experienced so many things after travelling overseas which are mentioned below.
Felt the Jetlag
Jet lag is the struggle you feel when you travel in a different time zone. You will feel more than ever before when you are traveling overseas for the first time. I was exhausted. I was sleepy during the day and sleepless during the night. So you gotta deal with it for 4 to 7 days. It varies from person to person.
Broaden my mind
I felt that my problems were so small because my world became so bigger. I was out of my comfort zone while travelling overseas. Getting late for work, having an argument with your family and fighting with your friends became so irrelevant. I saw the world so differently and stopped worrying over little things. You see people who are making the most of every situation and living each day fully. I got inspired by them.
I got inspired by every little moment when I was traveling overseas. From the start when you board the plane you’ll be daydreaming the sights you’ll see, this keeps you motivated throughout. I experienced so many “First Time’s” during my travel. Your soul feels at peace and inspired.
I felt homesick quite often while travelling overseas. Other countries have so much to explore but sometimes, you just want to be at your home and want to sleep on your bed. I missed the food, family, and friends. It is not that I didn’t like the new place, I loved it. But I realized that there are some things I’ve taken for granted and I appreciated them with a whole new light.
Wanderlust is a beautiful feeling. It is the constant need to see the world. Once I started traveling, I didn’t want to stop after that experience. The first time you are travelling overseas, you will see the cities and coastlines personally which you have seen on Instagram. But the experience will be totally different when those images are taken off the screen and placed right in front of your eyes.
I have shared with you my first experience of traveling overseas. Share your experience with me. Because everybody sees and feels things differently.
